Hello summer. =]
I shall take these next 5 days or so and relax. Summer classes start tuesday. Does it ever end? Nopeeee. I wouldnt want it any other way though.
Last night in my last interpersonal speech class we had a bunch of final wrap up activities. One was bringing in an object that represented the class...in our eyes. I brought in magic pencils. Yep...magic. They were some cool colored pencils I found at Michael's earlier that day. Talk about last minute, but when an idea inspires you I suppose thats the art of..well...art itself in a sense. These pencils had three colors intertwined in each. It looked like a tie dye mess and they were mesmorizing. I explained that although this was just a "speech" class, there were many aspects that went along with speech. I never knew there were so many sides to conflict, communication, and relationships. Although there were many different aspects that go along with all of this...they all have a common meeting ground...speaking. It all comes together beautifully, and without one aspect...it would not make the art of speaking...or the pencil...whole. My professor liked it. She dugg how I sought out a deeper meaning and made a few nice final statements about how much I enjoyed the class altogether. I was the baby of the class. 20 years old. Everyone was 21 and older. They are all aspiring doctors and nurses. They've all been to great universities such as Berkeley, UCSD, UC Irvine, and so on. This class for them was a pre-rec for their med school. I felt uneasy in the beginning but I actually ended up enjoying this class more than I thought. Out of all my classes at DVC this one was definately my favorite. To wrap up before we went home last night, we all sat in a circle and one by one had to come and sit in the front of the class for 2 minutes. During those 2 minutes anyone who wanted to speak up and say something positive about the person sitting in the front..could. Its wild sitting up front having your peers speak highly of you. It takes a lot for a person to come out and express things they enjoy about you. It lifts your spirits and sometimes surprises you. It gives you a little extra push in thoughts about how you see yourself. One of the girls I got pretty close with said some very nice things. After knowing me for 6 months...she got pretty good grasp on who I was from mere small talk and quick exchanges of thoughts and ideas. She told me that she always saw me as older. She always looked at me like I had already finished college and was onto bigger and better things. She said no matter what I try and do...I wont only succeed in doing it...but I will do well. She told me that I am going to make the world proud and she has no doubt in her mind that I am going to sail through the next two years of undergrad and do amazing things in life. It was a nice little reminder that I am doing this...I can do this...I will do this. Very positive, cool way to end my time at DVC. I'm proud.
